Betty J. (Brown) Irving, 71, of Meredosia, died Sunday, August 19, 2007, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born October 7, 1935, in Meredosia, the daughter of Everett Royal and Della L. Surratt Gregory. She married Weatheford Tony Buster Brown on Sept. 13, 1952, and they were later divorced. She later married Stephen E. Steve Irving on Oct. 13, 1981, and he survives.
She is also survived by five daughters and one son, Joyce Brown of Mango, Fla., Elizabeth Brown (companion, Rollie Luckett) of Meredosia, Patricia Wolstenholme (companion, John Coultas) of Bluffs, Twylia (husband, Tim) McBride of Poteau, Okla., Rodney Brown of Meredosia and April Brown of Jacksonville; one step-son, Eddie (wife, April) Irving of Jacksonville; twelve grandchildren, Danny Arcaro and Donnie Arcaro, both of Quincy, Nicholas (wife, Jessica) Brown of Jacksonville, Heidi Brown of Beardstown, Cristal Brown, Jacob Ready and Jensen Ready, all of Wister, Okla., Angela McBride, Adrienne McBride and Joey McBride, all of Poteau, Okla., and Shana Brown and Sarah Brown, both of Gilbert Ariz.; six great-grandsons; and three brothers and one sister, Hank (wife, Betty) Gregory of Bluffs, Cecile (husband, Harold) Rohrer of Groveland, Audrey (wife, Wanda) Gregory of Bluffs and Mike (wife, Pam) Gregory of Bluffs.
She was preceded in death by one son, Lonnie Brown; one grandson, Brent Brown; two sisters, Jean Drohan and Marilyn Jean Shepherd; and one brother, Hubert Buzz Gregory.
Mrs. Irving was a cook at area restaurants, including Bud & Lucy’s and later Norm’s in Meredosia, the Naples Boatel, and Dosh Dari Delite. She had also been a C.N.A. at Ivanhoe Manor in Jacksonville. She had been active in helping to raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, playing and watching softball, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She loved animals, especially her dog, Albert. Mrs. Irving also loved doing things for other people and taking care of her family, even when she was sick.
