Betty Irene Shafar was born on April 11, 1926 in rural Lucas County, to Asa Carl Etter and Edith Elizabeth (Casner) Etter.

She passed away on January 31, 2014 at Legacy Lodge in Chariton at the age of 87.

In 1944 Betty was united in marriage to Ted Foster Jr.

To this union were born two daughters.

Betty was later united in marriage to Max Shafar.

They made their home in rural Chariton until the time of Max’s death in 2010.

Betty continued to live in her rural Chariton home and enjoyed her time with family and friends.

She also enjoyed attending Bluegrass Music Festivals and camping with friends and family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Asa and Edith Etter; three brothers, Robert, Bruce, William; two sisters, Dora and Helen.

Left to mourn her passing are sisters Wyoma Duckworth, Lucillie Duckworth and Pat (Leo) Blubaugh; her children, Connie (Roger) Larrington and Barb (Albert) Rich; six grandchildren Kim (Jay) Pierschbacher, Brian (Debbie) Larrington, Karen (Jason) Stuart, Shawn (Sara) Rich, Andrew (Dee) Rich, and Luke (Angela) Rich; sixteen great grandchildren, Cole and Jayme Pierschbacher, Abbie, Eli, and Zeke Larrington, Royce and Clara Stuart, Amanda Johnson, Brayden and Briar Rich, Bailey and Brittney Smith, Mikayla and Macray Rich, Isabella and Evangeline Rich; along with many friends and acquaintances to mourn her passing.
