Betty F. Cooney Coates, 83, Anderson, died January 31, 2005 at Residence after an extended illness. She was born April 12, 1921 in Anderson, Indiana, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. She had been a floral designer for the Bouquet Shop, the Arrangement, K’s Blossom Shoppe and the Posey Shop.
She was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church. She was a precinct committee member for the Republican Party. She was president of Willing Workers Home Ec Club and co-founder of Remember Our Men in Vietnam. She was president of the Meadowbrook PTA and Mother’s Club.
She is survived by two sons, Larry E. & wife Theresa Coates of Anderson and Michael L. ”Mick” & wife Marjorie Coates of Brownsburg; a daughter, Karon S. Brown of Anderson;eight grandchildren, Lori & husband Kevin Crawford of Anderson, Scott A. & wife Leslie Coates of Omaha, Nebraska, Amanda & husband Dana Henry of Plainfield, Adam Coates of Danville, Alex Coates of Brownsburg, Melissa Brenneman of Anderson, Rick & wife Annette Brown of Anderson, Heather & husband Jason Imel of Anderson and Martina Hughel of Indianapolis; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband whom she married December 24, 1941 in Anderson, Gareth E. Coates on January 5, 1997; her parents, Elmer & Mary Ethel Smith Cooney; three sisters, Josephine Hull, Mildred Cooney, Rosemary Ruth and Bonita Cooney as a young child and a brother, Elmer Cooney.
