Betty Joe Spurlock, age 84, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington on January 6, 2017. Betty was born in Bloomington on May 21, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Essie Florence (Vibbert) Beam.
Betty loved her son, Mark, dearly, as well as her grandchildren and extended family. She was the mainstay and a source of support always for her family. Betty was loyal to her friends and enjoyed life fully. She graduated from Bloomington High School in 1950 and retired from Indiana University.
Betty is survived by her son, Mark Shipley (Annie Smiley), grandchildren, Britt Jeremy Shipley, Joseph Ryan and Jacquelynn Shipley Nikkie Ann Shipley-Sylvester, and Shane Sylvester, great-grandchildren, Evan Shipley-Courter, Anna Shipley-Courter-Hopkins, Erin Shipley-Courter-Robertson, Kiya Shipley-Vincent, Kayla Shipley, Alexandra Shipley, Riley Shipley, Isabella Shipley, and Adalyn Courter, great-great-grandchildren, Rowan Shipley, Lily Shipley, Rikku Shipley, Amelia Hopkins, cousins Wayne and Linda Ayers, and faithful pet, Lady.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
