Betty A. Hughes, age 87, went to meet her Savior Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Sterling House of Marion, IN. Betty was born in Gas City, Indiana on January 30, 1927, daughter of the late Walter and Cleopatra F. (Arnett) Pattison.
She was a 1945 graduate of Fairmount High School and entered the Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing as a Cadet Nurse, graduating in 1948. She retired from Northern Indiana Healthcare System, Marion, Indiana where she was a Registered Nurse for 30 years.
She was a member of Country Community Church, Jonesboro, Indiana. She was also a member and Past National President-American War Mothers, a perpetual patriotic organization founded in 1917. Members are mothers of children who have served or are serving in the Armed Services during a time of conflict.
She was Secretary/Treasurer of District 17 of the American Nurses Association. A former member of 38th Field Hospital Association and of the Fairmount Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband, Rev Rex Hughes, of Marion. They were married March 21, 1981 in Fairmount, IN One Daughter: Carol A. (Robert) King, Upland, IN One Son: Gordon R. Hawkinson, Marion, IN Step-daughters: Nancy (Shawn) Chen, Huntington, IN Brenda E. ( Rev. Ward) Lewis, Ft. Wayne, IN Step-sons: Rev. Michael (Janice) Hughes, Upland, IN David Hughes, Zephyrhills FL Randall L. Hughes, Marion, IN Three Sisters: Jeri Clem, Elyria, OH Margaret Latchaw, Charlotte, MI Annabelle (Robert) Mathioudakis, Indianspolis, IN 12 Grandchildren 8 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She is preceded in death by Brother; Edward Pattison, and 3 Grandchildren.
