Bettie Lee Settles, 94, of Virginia, IL passed away Monday, March 19, 2018, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.
She was born January 17, 1924 in Virginia, the daughter of Lee and Bessie Hankins Sherrill. She was previously married to Kenneth Stillwell of Beardstown, IL. She later married Freeman Settles on January 29, 1972 in Omaha, NE. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1994.
She is survived by one son, Jim L. Stillwell (wife, Nita) of Jonesboro, AR; three grandchildren, Mandy Hafner (husband, Todd) of Oskaloosa, IA; Molly Stillwell of Boynton Beach, FL; and Megan Rexwinkle (husband, John) of Parsons, KS; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings, Mary Ellen Briggs, Ruby Harris, Lee Etta Hartman, Louise Sherrill, Bessie Lou Smith, June White, and Alberta Zillion.
Bettie was employed as a waitress at the Virginia Country Club, the Virginia Inn, and restaurants in the Havana area. She loved cats and playing cards with family and friends. When someone said BINGO, Bettie was the first one to grab 6 cards. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and lived long enough to see them win a World Series.
