Bettie Alice Young Seay, 82, of 869 Irvin Seay Road (Oak Level), Bassett, VA died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA. She was born April 15, 1928 in Henry, VA, the youngest of 18 children of the late Samuel Marshall Young and the late Minnie Bedford Mullins Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Clemmie Taylor, Emma Philpott, Heddy France, Stella Brown and Cecile Beardsley; ten brothers, Curtis, Belvie, Leonard, Obie, Guy, Dennis, Roy, Johnny Young and infant twins. Mama Bettie, as she was affectionately known by her children, grandchildren and extended family spent her entire life caring for those she loved. She was never too busy to take care of nieces and nephews who needed her motherly influence. She was a member of Oak Level Baptist Church and former president of their Sunshine Group. Also, she was a member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club. Mrs. Seay is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ira J. Seay of the home; daughters, Brenda Seay Woods of Oak Level and Carolyn Seay of Smith Mountain Lake; three sons, Jerry W. Seay of Tampa, Florida, Richard “Ricky†T. Seay and Derek A. Seay both of Oak Level; three grandchildren, Robbie Barrett, III, Shannon Wright and Brandi Barrett; seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Russell D. Young and Paul J. Young both of Henry, VA.
