Bessie Byrd Bowers, 98, of 352 Kings Way Rd., King’s Grant, Martinsville, VA died Saturday, June 26, 2010 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born May 5, 1912 in Carroll Co., VA, Mrs. Bowers was a daughter of the late Kelly Byrd and Sarah Elizabeth Archer Byrd. Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bowers and also by three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Bowers was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Fieldale United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. During WWII she had worked at the Radford Powder Plant. Mrs. Bowers is survived by her daughter, Hope Elizabeth Kormos and son-in-law, Joseph Kormos of Martinsville.
