Bertha J. Wnuk, 95, of New Britain passed away on Saturday January 16, 2016, at the Hospital of Central CT. Born on November 30, 1920, in Hartford, Bertha was the daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine (Backiel) Blasko. She was raised in and attended schools in Mattituck, Long Island. After she completed her education, Bertha returned to Hartford and eventually moved to New Britain. She married her beloved husband Faustyn Wnuk on February 10, 1945, and together they shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on March 29, 2009. Bertha formerly worked for American Hardware and then Stanley Works, retiring from their employment in 1983 after 33 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain, the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild and Stanley Seniors. Bertha loved sewing and even used her talents to sew her sister’s wedding gown. In her leisure time, she took many trips with the Stanley Seniors and cheering on the New Britain Rock Cats. Bertha is survived by her daughter, Nancy Schweizer and her husband Edward of Cheshire, her sister, Florence Foster of Seneca Falls, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Sobanski and Stella Blasko and her brothers, Stanley, Chester, John, Henry, Albert and Edward Blasko. Nancy and Edward would like to thank Danuta for her loving and dedicated care during this past year so Mom could live happily in her home.
