Bertha Batravil was born on July 16, 1931, in Petit-Bourg de Port Margot, Northern Haiti, from Monavil Batravil and Genia Voyelle. She was the middle child of 3, Robest (Bebes) was the older and Frederique Batravil, the younger.

She went to Cap-Haitien to learn how to sew clothes (seamstress). She used this skill not only for profit but, to help a lot of people. She was a risk taker. You put a challenge before her, she will meet it. She used to say in this context: Mwen Fanm!
At age 20, she met her life companion that was much older than her. The challenge: can she hold a man like that, mature with years of experience, businessman?  “Mwen Fanm! Her breakfast is ready before the sun can say good morning, her dinner is ready by 11AM, her laundry is always ready. If you tried to mess with her man… you will meet her fists, her teeth, her kicks. She will know!
From that relation was born Lovana, Malene, Julie (deceased), Fenell. Bertha had a great heart with arms so wide to embrace and reach out. She was compassionate, nurturing, smart, funny, honest and kind. Her dining table was always inviting with plenty of good and tasty food.
She made a lot of sacrifices for her family especially for me with the death of our dad who was the main provider when I was 12. She experienced a lot of hardships, but her flag was always floating. From one who compete in horse race to the one who walked more than 60 miles carrying her merchandise from Ti Bouk Port Magot to Ti Bouk Obogne, from having servant’s male and female to be working for 50 gourdes a month to pay for my schooling and keep us from starvation.
She was the mastermind behind my sister coming to the USA that made the way for us to be here.
She also loved to counsel young ladies about life and the way to live not knowing that she was planting seed for her son to harvest later on, because one is my dear wife. She moved to the US in 1993, to stay with her daughter Malene, then to her own apartment, where she breathed her last breath to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded with her children, grandchildren and friends, on August 7, 2022.  Her taste of eloquence had never waver even in her last days.
She knew how to love well!

She was a mom, a friend, a Tann Bertha for so many. She will be greatly missed. She was a prayer warrior for the family.  She is rejoicing with her savior now, she had so many encounters while she was here on earth.
She served her master well. Even when she couldn’t swallow and didn’t taste anything for weeks, she kept saying with little strength Jezu Kapab, Merci! Jezu Kapab, Merci!Mom, I will see you later!  The impacts of your life will continue for generations.
If Christ is your Savior and Lord, you can say with me: See you in the morning.
