Bert was an ambitious, driven, self-made entrepreneur. He was a talented and creative photographer who moved to New York City at 17 years old with $70 in his pocket, a head full of dreams, and a heart full of aspiration. He owned the biggest professional photographic equipment retailer in NYC at the time; Photo Exchange, and a film developing laboratory; In Color Lab, which catered to the world’s top photographers. Later in life, Bert became a skilled filmmaker and producer, founding Up In the Air Productions, Ltd., which produces international dance music hits and docuseries, including Have Steam Engine Will Travel, which aired on American Public Television and Amazon. When he put his mind to something, he accomplished it. Bert was also very proud of his children and a unique father. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed teasing and challenging people, and was incredibly generous. He spent his spare time working on DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects on his beloved farm in New Hartford, CT, surrounded by many sheep grazing on the property. He is survived by his loving children, Brooke Brander of Japan, Marcus Brander of CA, and Casey Brander of NY; his longtime love and fiancee, Aimee Sim of NY; and his sister, Charlotte Theriault and husband Joel of ME.
