Bernita “Kayse” Small passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on August 8, 2024, in Haymarket, Virginia. Kayse was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family, a devoted wife to George Small, and a dear friend to many. She founded Le Boudoir, a lingerie boutique and bra-fitting service in Middleburg, Virginia, and Livy and Lana, Bras for Us. Kayse was also a proud United States Air Force veteran. Born on March 4, 1962, in Church Point, Louisiana, to Wallace and Mary Duplechain, Kayse was an avid traveler who had a deep appreciation for world cultures and cuisine. She hosted dinners in Paris, studied at the legendary Le Cordon Bleu School of Cooking, journeyed to Taroudant, Morocco to learn traditional recipes from a Berber family, and spread her love of food with family and friends. Through her entrepreneurial ventures, Kayse devoted her time and energy to promoting women’s empowerment, body positivity, and self-confidence. Kayse was predeceased by her beloved mother, Mary, and her brothers, John Duplechain and Joseph Wallace Duplechain. She is survived by her devoted husband, George, and her children, Kimberly, Amber (Simon), Baruch, Ishmael (Jasmine), Robbie, and Solange, who will forever remember her loving guidance and unwavering support. Her legacy continues to flourish through her grandchildren Ariana Simone, Ellena, Olivia Grace, Aiden, Derrick, Kairo, and Cataleya Josephine. She is also survived by her loving father, Wallace, and her sisters and brothers. As we remember Kayse, we celebrate a woman who embodied love, hope, strength, and grace.
