Bernice K. Staszewski, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away surrounded by family, at 5:19 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2007, in Inwood Hills Estates. She was born on October 11, 1918 in South Bend to Frank and Josephine (Buczkowski) Kolanda. Her name at birth was Bronislawa Emila Kolanda. Bernice was formerly employed with the former Studebaker Corporation and Wilson Brothers. On February 20, 1943 in McComb, Mississippi, as Bernice K. Kolanda, she married Joseph Staszewski, who preceded her in death on July 21, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Elizabeth Kolanda, Helen Kolanda, Frances Brown, and Marie White. Surviving sisters are Irene J. Wesolek of South Bend, IN and Loretta Janowiak of Granger, IN and four generations of nieces and nephews.
