Bernice Lenetta (Weiss) Gronbach, age 93 of Humboldt, went to be with Jesus on July 4th, 2021 at Springvale Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family. Bernice was born on June 16, 1928 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Ewald and Christine (Licht) Weiss. She was raised by Ewald, her Grandma Anna, her Aunt Hilda and her step-mother Tillie, after her mother’s passing when she was a toddler. Bernice graduated High School from the Humboldt School system. After high school, she moved to Ft Dodge and began working. She was introduced to the love of her life, Marvin, through her sister Leone and Marvin’s cousin Vernon Hohenberger. Marvin asked Vernon to take him up to the Weiss farm to see a few cattle, but it turns out-he wasn’t interested in the cattle, he had his eyes set on Bernice. Bernice and Marvin were then united in marriage on May 27, 1955. They made their home in Beaver Township where they raised their 6 children and farmed until moving to town in 1968, where they lived in the same home until Marv’s passing in June of 2012 and Bernice’s move to Springvale for the final 3 years of her life. Bernice, along with Marv, worked for the Zion Lutheran church as custodians for many years. Bernice was baptized into Christian faith as an infant, confirmed on April 18th, 1943, and continued to put her faith first, showing many generations of her family the importance of faith. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, being involved in LWML and the church choir. Bernice was also involved in the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, the Livermore Legion Auxiliary Post 915 and an expert baby whisperer, holding and cuddling many, many grandchildren over her years, even up until her last day on earth. Bernice is survived by her children, Wayne (Jan) Gronbach of Menifee, CA, Vivian Gronbach of Humboldt, James (Judy) Gronbach of Dakota City, Gary (Dawn) Gronbach of Fort Dodge, and Lyle Gronbach of Dakota City. She is also survived by her sister Leone Hohenberger-Rowe, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson along with many nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, son Rodney, daughter-in-law Mary Gronbach, sisters Elda Eilers, Lorna Stellhorn, Maxzine Coleman, Alberta Wolf, and her parents. We praise and magnify our gracious Lord for extending His salvation in Jesus Christ as Savior to Bernice and all who put their trust in Him, and we look forward to the blessed reunion to come in Christ’s presence. “Lord, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells.” Psalm 28:6.
