Bernice Marshall, (nee Borris), 53, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Alaris in Kearny, NJ after a fierce battle with ovarian cancer.

Mrs. Marshall was born on February 16, 1966, to Bernard and Emmelia (nee Dyle) Borris in East Orange, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Kearny.

Bernice was a 1984 graduate of Kearny High School where she earned All-State honors as a softball pitcher and bowler and was inducted into the Kearny High School Sports Hall Of Fame. She continued her pitching career in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as a four-year starter for Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. While there, she pitched the only perfect game in the university’s history.

She worked as a Recreational Director at Alaris Health for over 30 years.

Bernice will be remembered as living life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, and staying active with her children’s sporting events.

Martial Arts were one of her deepest passions and in November she was promoted to Sensei. Bernice was the only female in the history of her dojo, Michi Budo Ryu to earn her 4th-degree black belt.

She is survived by her husband, John Marshall and their two beautiful children, Emilee, 19 and Jason, 18; one brother, Gerard Borris and her Aunt Elaine Dumars. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
