Bernard V. Strychalski, 96, formerly of St. Pauls Retirement Community and Scott Street in South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:22am Monday, March 12, 2007 at Countryside Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mishawaka, IN.
He was born on May 20, 1910 to the late Julian and Theresa (Grzegorek) Strychalski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents; his wife Louise, of 65 years, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Strychalski worked for Studebaker and Ford Motor Company.
On April 25, 1942, he married Louise T. Weezy Turza in Chicago, IL. She died on January 2, 2007.
Bernie was the oldest of eleven children, of whom three are surviving including two brothers, Ted (Pat) Strychalski of South Bend, IN; Raymond (Mary) Strychalski of Atlanta, GA; and by one sister, Hildegarde Turner of Mishawaka, IN. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Harry Miller of Mishawaka, IN; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Strychalski of South Bend, IN; as well as 26 nieces & nephews.
Mr. Strychalski was a member of Christ the King Parish. He was a member of the United States Army and a devoted husband to his wife Louise. He enjoyed traveling to Florida, Las Vegas, Nevada, smoking his cigars and working crossword puzzles. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his strength of character was one of his most admirable traits. Bernie will be remembered fondly by all his family and friends.
