Bernard “Buddy” Norton Pogue, 89, of Galesburg, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at home. Buddy was born February 1, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Ralph S. and Bernice (Walsh) Pogue.  He married Lillian Glass September 29, 1951 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galsburg.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian Mae of Galesburg; three sons James Bernard (Mary Ellen) of Centennial, CO, Patrick Eugene (Juliette) of Aurora, CO, and Matthew Allen (Nichol) of Galesburg; two daughters, Christine (John) Pogue Allison and Susan Marie Pogue both of Galesburg; and a sister, Mary Jane “Pudd” Gregory of Murphysboro, TN. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mary Margaret Allison, Kathleen Anne Allison, John Bernard Pogue, Megan Catherine Pogue, Lillian Ann Pogue, Kimberly Marie Pogue, and Jeremy Patrick Pogue. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bernice Pogue; brothers, Thomas “Tim” Pogue, John “Roundy” Pogue, Robert “Bobby” Pogue, and James “Jimmy” Pogue.Buddy graduated from Corpus Christi Catholic High School, attended Knox College, and graduated from Bradley University.

He was a manufacturer’s representative of industrial finishes for many years. Buddy served as a tail gunner and radioman on a B-24 bomber in the Army Air Corp during WWII. His plane was shot down over Romania and he was held as a POW. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Buddy coached one of the first Little League teams (the Cardinals) in Galesburg. He coached junior high school basketball at the Catholic Schools in Galesburg for 32 years. He served on the IHM School Board and was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and the Honor Guard. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and Father J.O. Hunt Knights of Columbus Council 556.
