Mr. Glowicki passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Bay Shores Nursing Home in Bay City at the age of 88 years. . He was born July 12, 1925 in Bay County to the late John and Anna Cherry Glowicki. Barney graduated from Bay City Central in 1945. He was the Manager of the Prestolite Credit Union, worked at KC Welding, attended the Evangelical Free Church and was secretary of the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame for over 22 years, of which he was a charter member since 1990. Barney loved being with his family, working around his house, going up north to his Rifle River cabin, and participating in and watching sports – especially football. He coached football at the parochial schools in Bay City for many years.. Barney was a ‘stand-out’ football player at Bay City Central and also played for the Semi-Pro Bay City All Stars in the 1948- 51. Barney was also an accomplished Golden Gloves Boxer and boxed his way around the state in 1946 with the Michigan State College Boxing Team. He was the past president of the Bangor Township School Board and Bangor John Glenn High School Booster Club. In 2007, he was honored with the President’s Award from the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame. Serving tirelessly, as secretary of the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame, was one of his most enjoyable positions. He loved documenting the history of ‘all sports’ in the Bay County region. Barney was a caring and unselfish individual who loved working hard, participating in the community, being with his family, going up north, attending family reunions.
On July 31, 1950 he married his wife of 63 years the former Sally Martin and she survives his passing along with daughter Cindy Glowicki-Ohrt, son Greg Glowicki, daughter Kimberly Glowicki-Ruterbusch, and Michael Glowicki, son-in-law; John Ruterbusch and daughter-in-law; Mary Ann; Glowicki. His grandchildren include Jason Ohrt (Mandy) , Sara Ohrt-Sonnenfeld (Marc), Katlyn and Kelsey Ruterbusch (Dean Triechel), Theresa Glowicki, Gina Glowicki-McCullough (Dennis). His six great grandchildren include Tessa, Mason, Audry, Mya, Kyla, and Tyler. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister: Donald (Elaine), Leon (Judy), Ruth Dobrinski, two sister-in-law, Madge Glowicki and Jackie O’Dell as well as seven nieces and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers John and Elmer and brother-in-laws, Joe Dobrinski and Bob Martin.
