Mr. Bennie W. Jones, Sr. has attained his eternal reward of everlasting life as he departed this life on earth on March 1, 2014. He was born in Carroll County on February 17, 1922, and was the son of the late William and Earline Johnson Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Jackie Ballard Jones in 1988. Also preceding him in death are his siblings Bill Jones, Kenzie Jones, Mabel Holloway, and Margaret Williams. Mr. Jones lived most of his life in Newnan except for a short time he lived in Jackson, GA. He served in The United States Army during World War II. His service took him overseas at the time of the D-Day events. Following the war, he served in the Army Reserves and The National Guard. His working career of 35 years was with Chevron Oil Company. He was a member of Jackson Presbyterian Church in Jackson, GA. He had lived at Corinth Road Assisted Living and Benton House Assisted Living and then at Newnan Health and Rehab. The family will be eternally grateful for his wonderful caregivers who helped give him the best quality of life possible as he dealt with his health issues. His family circle widened when he married Katie Miller-Jones, who survives him.
He is also survived by his son, Bennie W. Jones, Jr. and his wife Faye of Lilburn, GA, and his daughter Elizabeth Jones Fields of Newnan. His grandchildren are Melissa Hogan and her husband Robert of Newnan, Lisa Bailey and her husband Mitch of Thomson, GA, Benjie Jones and his wife Missy of Thomson, GA. These grandchildren gave him a devoted group of great grandchildren including Bobby, John and Joe Hogan, Stevie Eidson, Dawson, and Aslyn Jones. His step-grandchildren are Paul Madigan and his wife Tracy of Marietta, GA. They contributed Katlyn and Emily Madigan to the clan of great-grandchildren. He has a step-daughter Katy Miller of Jackson, GA. Her brother, Butch Miller, preceded Mr. Jones in death. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Mary Margaret Wynn of Portsmouth, VA. His sole surviving sibling is Evelyn Mooney of Cleveland, GA.
