Benjamin Waldo Phillips 92, of Route 1 Thornton passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 at the home of his daughter with family by his side. He was born September 18, 1917 in Preston Co, son of the late Benjamin N. and Bertha Sigley Phillips. Waldo worked at numerous jobs, retiring in 1976 from Island Creek Coal Co. Bayard, WV, District 31, Local 2478. He volunteered with Mountaineer Ambulance as a driver for many years. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Grafton. Waldo was the last surviving of his immediate family. He is survived by two daughters, Norma Shay, Fellowsville, Deloris Kacin and husband Chuck, Marquess; four sons, Ralph Phillips and wife Pat, Fellowsville, Donald Phillips and wife Patty, Belington, Ronald Phillips and companion Nina, Marquess, Camden Phillips and wife Peggy, Thornton; three stepsons, Edward Bolyard, Warren, OH, Norman Austin and wife Barbara, Grafton, Evert Austin, Youngsville, NC; eighteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Waldo was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ruth Pride Phillips in 1956; second wife, Esther Bolyard Phillips in 2010; four daughters; two sons; three sisters; five brothers; one son-in-law; one step daughter-in-law.
