Benigno Rodriguez Carrillo was called to go to work on the main line of Heaven’s railroad by the Lord on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

Benigno or “Benny” as he was known by his fellow railroad workers was born on February 13, 1930, to Maria Rodriguez and Ventura Carrillo in San Bernardo, Durango, Mexico. At a young age, Benigno came to the United States and worked on farms around the Clint and Fabens area in Texas. There he met a young lady named Anita Bañales who would become his wife of over 60 years.

Benigno and Anita eventually moved to New Mexico where Benigno worked on several cattle ranches and farms until he went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening around the house and planting trees around the yard. He seemed to have a green thumb as everything he planted flourished. He also cherished spending time with his many grandkids and loved playing with his dogs. Benigno attended St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4256.

Benigno is survived by his wife, Anita of the home; his sons, Armando Carrillo (Dora) of Deming, Genovevo Carrillo of Eagle Nest, New Mexico, Juan Carlos Carrillo (Tiffany) of Elko, Nevada, and Antonio Carrillo of Deming; daughters, Irene Chavez (Victor Manuel) of Deming and Ana Maria Luera of Alamogordo, NM. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Benigno was preceded in death by his parents, and children, Ascensión Carrillo, Benigno Carrillo Jr, and Elvira Carrillo Valenzuela.
