Mr. Deaderick, 59 years of age, peacefully passed away at his residence in Chula Vista, California. He is the husband of Karen Deaderick and the father of Lisa and Elliott.

Bart Deaderick made an impression. In his classroom with his elementary school students, he led them into his world with poetry by Langston Hughes and jazz by the likes of Les McCann, and they loved it. A parent once told him, “Mr. Deaderick, I’m a country music guy, but now when I pick my son up from school, he hops in my truck and changes the radio station. When I ask him what we’re listening to, he says, ‘It’s jazz, dad! Mr. Deaderick plays jazz in class!”‘ He passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at his home in Chula Vista. He was 59. Barton Elliott Deaderick was born on Dec. 30, 1953 in Chicago, Ill., to Thomas W. Deaderick and Ruby L. Moman. The youngest of three children, as a kid he would play restaurant with his big sister Connie, and his big brother Thomas once took him to a James Brown concert where Bart was the only elementary school kid in the room, groovin’ to the Godfather of Soul. He worked hard in school, finishing high school as class president, and his mother said he was always an honor student. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he met his future wife, Karen Purchase. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and later married Karen on Sept. 11, 1976.
