Bartolo R. Diaz, age 60, of Harlingen, Texas passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born August 24, 1961, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Guillermo Diaz and Maria Loretto Reyes.

Bartolo was a retired truck driver after 13 years with Cedar Valley Corporation in the state of Iowa. However, before moving to the states, He was an elementary school teacher in Mexico and taught social studies in underserved communities. Bartolo loved to learn and in particular he loved learning automotive skills. He was also a master of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects, very handy, and was always fixing or building something around the house. Bartolo was blessed with many skills that helped contribute to his family and most notably his 7 sisters and mother. He always had the best one liners that could bring laughter to his entire family. Bartolo was very well known as the “burlon” in the family. In his last year of life, Bartolo and his family witnessed a god-given miracle as he underwent surgery for a double-lung transplant. He spent his remaining time on this earth surrounded by those he loved and made the best of his time. He will be dearly missed by all his friends and family who always knew he was just a phone call away.

Bartolo is preceded in death by his parents, Maria Loretto Reyes Diaz and Guillermo Diaz; his maternal grandparents, Mateo Reyes and Modesta Santa Maria; paternal grandparents, Apolinar Diaz and Gabina Turriabiates; uncle, Esteban Castillo; and brother-in-law, Raymundo Anfoso.

He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, his loving wife of 28 years, Maria Teresa Diaz; three children, Jose Angel Diaz, Elizabeth Diaz, and Benjamin Apolo Diaz; one grandchild, Lucas Gabriel Azamar; eight siblings, Fidela Diaz Dunkin (Dial), Francisca Anfoso (Mundo +), Maria Rosario Leal (Isauro), Ofelia Diaz Reyes (Angel), Rosa Elena Sanguino (Beto), Juana Martinez (Poncho), Isabel Diaz, and Francisco G. Diaz (Jeanie); along with numerous nephews, nieces,and other relatives in Texas, Iowa, Mississippi, and Mexico.
