Thomas Barry O’Keefe, known affectionately as Barry, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2023, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Born in Philadelphia on December 8, 1951, he was a beloved son of the late John Joseph and Virginia (nee Scott) O’Keefe.
Barry was a cherished member of an extensive family. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Lundgren, his brother John O’Keefe, Jr., and his sister Karen O’Keefe Morrison.
Barry is survived by his twin brother, J. Scott O’Keefe, his sister-in-law, Geraldine Larkin O’Keefe, and many nieces and nephews, who will forever remember his kind spirit and unwavering faith.
Barry’s early education took place at Malvern Preparatory School, where he nurtured a lifelong love of learning. He furthered this love at Villanova University, earning a BA in History, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Barry also spent five years in the Seminary, a testament to his deep and abiding faith.
Barry’s professional life was marked by service and dedication. He served the community as a member of the Lower Merion Police for nine years, a role he undertook with commitment and passion. Later, he became a self-employed painter, operating BOK Painting for 30 years. His meticulous work ethic and attention to detail brought joy to countless homeowners. Barry also served as the Sergeant of Campus Security at Bryn Mawr College, ensuring the safety of students and staff alike. His dedication to his work was matched by his active involvement in the Fraternal Order of Police.
Barry will be remembered as a man who was faith-filled, intelligent, and kind. His faith guided him through life, providing comfort and purpose. His intelligence was evident in his love for history and his ability to engage in thoughtful conversations. His kindness was felt by all who knew him, from family and friends to colleagues and acquaintances. Barry was a man who truly lived his values and made a positive impact on the world around him.
Barry O’Keefe was a man of deep faith, a loving brother, and a dedicated public servant. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, his intelligence, and his unwavering commitment to his family and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
