Barbara Marie (Stevenson) Cobb, 94, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Healthcare in Lafayette.
She was born September 16, 1926, in New York City at Farnham General Hospital to the late Hugh Harrell and Mary A. (Pakorny) Stevenson. Barbara was a 1944 graduate of Fowler High School. In April 1950, she met Jack Cobb, and they must have liked each other because on October 26, 1951, they said, “I do” and were married 31 years. The couple had one son, Courtney, who was born in 1956.
Throughout her life Barbara had lived many places, including, New York City and Bay Shore, NY, Brownsfield, TX, Indianapolis, Fowler, and Logansport, and Lafayette. In 1977, the family moved to and lived in Stuart, FL until Barbara’s return to Lafayette in 2017 after losing her beloved husband to cancer on August 5, 1983.
Barbara worked at the Benton Review Publishing Co. in Fowler, the State Hospital in Logansport, Purdue University, and General Telephone & Electric in Lafayette. While living in Florida, she worked as a Membership Secretary for the Stuart Board of Realtors and as an Administrative Assistant for Cedar Pointe Village & Condominium Association.
She is survived by her son, Jackson Courtney Cobb and his wife Catherine of Lafayette; her brother, Robert L. Stevenson of Kingman, AZ; 4 nieces; and 2 nephews.
Along with her husband, Jack; and her parents, Hugh and Mary Stevenson, she was preceded in death by an unborn granddaughter, Jacquelyn Chase Cobb.
