Barbara Raymond (née Ludko), 77, a longtime resident of West Hartford and recently of Avon, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in New Britain on October 4, 1937, Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor Dilendik Ludko. She was predeceased by her eldest son Brian Beckius, former husband Arthur Beckius and husband Daniel Raymond. She is survived by two sons: Bruce Beckius of Avon and Robert Beckius of Simsbury; daughters-in-law Kim, Debbie and Gretchen; granddaughter Sarah Beckius Welchel and her husband, Matthew, of Mystic; and grandchildren Lara, Kyle, Nicholas and Savannah. She is also survived by her brother John Ludko and Patricia of New Britain, her brother George Ludko and his wife Maureen of Berlin, her sister Deborah Jipping of Mason, OH, and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was a 1955 graduate of New Britain High School and earned her teaching degree in 1959 from Teachers College of Connecticut. She was passionate about her role as a special education teacher in the Hartford Public Schools, where she worked for more than 25 years. She continued to further her education throughout her tenure. She was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in New Britain and active with the Holy Trinity Sisterhood. Barbara was also a member of the Suburban Woman’s Club and West Hartford Belles for many years and held leadership positions with both groups. An avid reader, cook and traveler, she was game for any adventure and gathered souvenirs and memories on every trip, whether it was to Italy with Dan or to Tanglewood with the Seniors. Her strong and loving heart, tenacious spirit, welcoming nature and service to others endeared Barbara to everyone she encountered including her “Fine Dining” friends at Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, which was “home” during her final months. Barbara’s immense reluctance to leave this world was evident as she continued to express desire to dine out and to shop for Christmas gifts for her grandchildren during her final days.
