Barbara Martinez-Herrera, 66, of Thornton, passed away December 8, 2012 at her home. She was born November 14, 1946 in Denver, CO to Juan and Genevieve (Sanchez) Martinez. She attended schools in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1964. She later married Manuel Herrera on August 25, 1968.
Barbara was raised in Brighton and moved away in 1987, living in Johnstown, Loveland and Denver. She was a very loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved to cook the “special favorite” dishes for her family. Barbara loved going with her family to yard sales and trips up the mountain.
Barbara is survived by her children, Teresa Tafoya, Tommy Herrera, and Denise (Jody) Baerga, all of Thornton and daughter, Sharisa Guzman of Brighton; sister, Rosie Chavez of Brighton; brothers, George Martinez and Eddie Martinez of Brighton; six grandchildren, DeShaunn Hogeda, Carrissa Duran, Alicia Duran, Justin Baerga, Ryan Oliver and Graicen Diaz; three great-grandchildren, Rudy Hogeda, Ceilanna Simpson and Malikai Simpson.
