Barbara M. Smith, 86, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Goshen, Indiana, at her daughters home.
She was born on August 17, 1919, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Joanna (Kolacz) Niespodzianny. As Barbara M. Niespodzianny, she married Edward W. Smith, who preceded her in death in 2002. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Valeria Homer and a brother, John Niespodzianny.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sue (Danny) Urick of Goshen; two granddaughters, Rachel (Armando) Calderon of Goshen and Rebecca Szlanfucht of Elkhart, Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Jessica and Sandra Calderon, David Szlanfucht and Michael Abarca; and by a sister, Martha Michalak of South Bend.
Mrs. Smith was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend and a member of the D.A.V. Women’s Auxiliary.
