Barbara Mae Harris, 81, of Granger, passed away at her home Sunday, July 17, 2011.
She was born Nov. 20, 1929, to Jesse D. and Elizabeth E. (Speicher) Metzger in Goshen. On Jan. 13, 1951, Barbara was married to Russell Norman Harris in San Antonio, Texas.
Surviving are her son, Robert (Debora) Harris of Fish Lake; daughter Lori Croy of Elkhart; sister Mary (Rocco) Barbaro of Goshen; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marianne Harris; sister Edna Stacy; and three brothers, Richard, Edward and Raymond Metzger.
Barbara worked with the Cleveland Township Assessor’s Office as chief deputy assessor for eight years and as Cleveland Township trustee for four years. She was the past president of the Peta BOA board and director of Mobile Meals, a program she implemented and served as director for four years. Barbara was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of the DAR.
She often enjoyed traveling, researching genealogy, sewing and especially her dogs.
