Barbara Lynnette Harrell, age 81, passed into the arms of Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior at home on April 5, 2024. She was born on February 11,1943 in Portsmouth, VA to Warren and Evelyn Wood. She married her High School sweetheart, Bobby Harrell on September 9, 1961. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2024. They were married for 62 years and now together forever in the presence of their God. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Warren Wood.Barbara graduated from Old Dominion University and Portsmouth General Hospital School of Nursing: RN in 1983 after raising her two sons. She started working at Portsmouth General Hospital as a nurse in the labor and delivery department, then to the Home Health department as a nurse manager. Her final position was in Monroe, NC as the Director of Patient Care for Hospice. That’s where she retired and started caring for her father who was in poor health. Barbara was the ultimate wife and mother to her husband and sons. She was always concerned for the wellbeing of her family over her own. She gave all of herself and sacrificed her own needs for the sake of her family. She loved without condition and loved with her whole heart. She loved her family like no one else could. Barbara’s legacy is one of love, compassion and service. She touched the lives of countless people during her lifetime.
