In loving memory, Barbara K. Hanford, 86, died January 7, 2014, peacefully at home. Barbara is survived by her loving daughters, Susan MacDonald of Niceville, Florida, and her daughter Beth. Barbara was also blessed with five grandchildren, Lindsey and Lesley MacDonald of Niceville, Florida, and three grandsons. She is preceded in her death by her loving husband, Edwin Hanford, who awaited her in heaven for twenty years but now is reunited. She is preceded in her death by her parents, Gretchen and Albert Knabb, and her sister Mary.
Barbara was born in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, on September 19, 1927, where she and her sister Mary shared a full and loving childhood. She attended Penn State University where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. While at Penn State she met her loving husband and life partner, Edwin Hanford. She and Edwin were married on December 17, 1949, and shared a wonderful life together along with their loving children which included many unique adventures.
After her marriage to Edwin, the family relocated to the west coast where they finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. Barbara continued her career in Library Science where her love of books and teaching guided her to become the Director of the Curriculum Materials Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she often welcomed literary dignitaries from across the nation. Barbara was a published author of a series of children’s books which she adapted and thrived in her career as a librarian until she retired after 30 years, at the age of 72.
