BARBARA WOODRUFF KEATS, PhD., passed away suddenly, Tuesday, September 1, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Barbara was a beloved sister of Richard “Woody” Woodruff, mother to her daughters Heather Keats Atiga and Kristen Shelley Keats and devoted grandmother to Spencer Joel Atiga, Jacob Daniel Atiga, Jackson Keats Longmire and Kelsey Addison Longmire. Her grandchildren were the great joy of her life and they were loved by her, beyond measure. Sleepovers and popsicles on the porch, were a ritual. Barbara’s dog Holt was her constant companion and they shared a love best understood by those who have experienced it. Barbara was also a member of the Dominican Laity and the All Saints Catholic Newman Center in Tempe. She served as chairperson of the Arizona Ecumenical Council, which reflected her dedication to spirituality. Dr. Keats joined the Arizona State University faculty in the College of Business Management Department in 1984 and in the course of her work there made countless contributions to the school, the students, and to the community. Barbara will be remembered as a loyal friend, ready to help in any way at a moment’s notice. She was an avid animal lover and a supporter of the Animal Welfare League, from which she adopted three pets in the last several years. The family would like to acknowledge: Brian Gilbert and Dale Kalika – thank you for being there when we could not; Father Nathan Castle and Mary Macuga of the All Saints Catholic Newman Center at Arizona State University and also to the Dominican Laity for all your help; Norman Clark – for taking Holt into your loving home; Solange Fedele and Bert Keats for your immeasurable assistance during this difficult time.
