Barbara Joan Hegeman, age 79, of Barneveld, passed away February 17, 2014, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Facility.

She was born December 3, 1934, in Rome, a daughter of Gordon and Charlotte Grems Sexton and graduated from Holland Patent High School. Barbara was married to Conrad Coleman; he died December 24, 1959. She later married Charles W. Hegeman on June 9, 1962 in Floyd; he died on September 1, 2007. She worked as a secretary at Griffiss Air Force Base, Sampo and many years at Utica National and later at MVCC. She was a charter member of the Floyd Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Barbara loved the crafts, including crocheting, knitting, needlepoint and cake decorating. She was an avid NASCAR fan but loved to relax by reading books, and researching her family genealogy.

Barbara is survived by a daughter and son in law, Wanda and Ben Poczatek of Prospect; a son and daughter in law, Steven and Susan Coleman of Prospect; brothers and sisters in law, David and Cheryl Sexton of Floyd, James and Judy Sexton of Camden, Gary and Jelinda Sexton of Mahomet, IL, and Richard Loucks of Oneonta; grandchildren, Keri Burke and her husband, Kevin, Christopher Poczatek and girlfriend Crystal Graves and Amanda Poczatek, Scott Coleman and his wife, Kathy, Jesse Coleman and his wife, Jessica, Stephanie Coleman and Shannon Pope; 13 great grandchildren; brothers in law and sisters in law, Eleanor “Dolly” and Vince Jordan of Marion, MD, Hugh Westcott of Floyd, George and Connie Hegeman of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Mike and Beatrice Hegeman of Remsen; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Westcott.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Dr. Stephen Lauterbach and the compassionate staff of the ICOU Unit at Faxton St Lukes Health Care Facility for everything they did to help their mother.
