Barbara Joan Grantham, 87, passed away peacefully January 29, 2021, at her apartment at West Minster Village North, Indianapolis. Joan was born Jan. 7, 1934 in Pendleton, IN to the late Herman and Nellie (Kincade) Sharritt.

Joan was a longtime resident of the Fortville area and a graduate of Fortville High School’s class of 1952, where she was an active participant of their alumni association. She was the sole owner of Joan’s Beauty Shop in downtown Fortville for over 40 years. Joan was very active in the Fortville chapter of Eastern Star and Past Matrons and had attended both the Fortville Christian Church and the Church of the Brethren, Pendleton. Joan had been an accomplished knitter and loved to play cards and do jigsaw puzzles.

She loved hosting her immediate family for Christmas Eve and Easter, enjoyed watching all sports on T.V., especially the Indiana Pacers, and was a strong supporter of her children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren in Madison County 4-H through the years.

Joan is survived by her children Steve (Christy) and Pam Patterson (Jim). She leaves behind grandchildren Jonie Jessup (Mark), Brook Steffee (Brandon), James M. Patterson, and Laura Patterson, as well as 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her sister Patty Lou Levering of Ohio also survives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Nellie, husband Mack, and brother Lloyd Sharritt (Estelle).

Joan’s family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Westminster for its care and support since January 2012.
