Barbara J. DuRose, age 80, of Vernon, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 peacefully at her daughter’s home in Missouri.

She was born on December 29, 1933 in Urbana, IL, a daughter of the late Walter S. and Katherine L. (Axley) Hauersperger. Barbara graduated Champaign High School in 1951. On July 23, 1955, she married her beloved husband, Richard N. DuRose, at Holy Cross Church in Champaign, IL. Her working career as a federal employee spanned 30 years and four Air Force Bases: Chanute AFB, IL, Ellsworth AFB, SD, Brookley AFB, AL, and retired in May 1989 from RADC at Griffiss, AFB, in Rome. She volunteered at the Food Pantry at The Church of the Holy Family in Vernon, NY from 1989 to 2004.

Barb belonged to the American Legion Post #404 Auxiliary, Vernon; AARP, NARF, GALS Club of GAFB, Life Member AF Sergeant’s Association Auxiliary, Life Honorary Member Sampson AFB Veterans Association. Barbara cherished all the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared her generous spirit, never ending compassion, and sense of humor with all she met.

She is survived by a son, James P. DuRose II, Christchurch, NZ; three daughters and one son in law, Regina DuRose and companion, Jon Colvin, Roietta DuRose, all of Vernon, and Jeanette and Jim Jablanski, Branson West, MO, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great, great grandson; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Edward and Regina Robinson and Jack and Marcella (Annie) Gaines; three sisters in law, Maureen Hauersperger, Sylvia Campo, and Cynthia Young; a brother in law, James P. DuRose I; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, Ralph and Phillip Hauersperger; and daughter in law, Suzanne.
