Mrs. Barbara Jean Justice Cummings,58,of Newnan died on June 2, 2008. She was born in Colquitt County, GA and lived there until after she was married. She and her husband settled first in Clayton County for 24 years and Coweta County for 12 years. Barbara, a gifted singer,started singing as a member of the Sunbeams at her church. She continued to be a member of her church choirs(and served as soloist) all her life until she could no longer sing because of her illness. She sang in the A Cappella Choir and Seranaders at Moultrie Senior High School. The summer after her senior year,the Seranaders performed at the Kiwanis International Convention in Toronto, Canada. She majored in music(voice education) at UGA and was a member of the Georgia Singers. After moving to Atlanta, she sang with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for several seasons. In later years, she sang with the Tara Choral Guild, where she served as a soloist.

For several years, she performed concerts in local churches, and in other states, such as South Carolina. Barbara has been a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church at White-oak in Newnan for the past 12 years. She was a very active member, sang in the choir and a quartet, before her health began to fail. She worked as the Office Manager of several doctors’ groups, but later became employed at Northwest Airlines for twelve years. While there, she and her family enjoyed traveling, including trips to Hawaii, Mexico, California, Nevada, Colorado, and many more places. Barbara is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gene Cummings; a son, Clint(Bianca)Cummings from Canton,GA; a daughter, Melanie Cummings from Atlanta,GA; a granddaughter, Stephanie Cummings; a sister-in-law, Carol(Jimmy-deceased)Justice, of Abbevile,SC; 2 nieces, Jan(Andy)Davis, and Jennifer(Frank)Smith, also of Abbeville,SC; three grandnephews, Drew & Ryan Davis and Will Smith; one uncle and two aunts, Jack & Anna Busby of Americus,GA and Alma(Herman-deceased)Busby from Moultrie,GA; and five first cousins. Barbara was the type of person that anyone would feel comfortable with. Many people sought her advice, including co-workers, friends and family. She made sure that everyone knew that her strength and wisdom came from her Heavenly Father.
