Barbara J. Howard, 62, of Manchester died suddenly at home on Sunday, July 10, 2016. She was born in New York City on October 30, 1953 daughter of the late George and Kathryn (Charant) Howard. Barbara was a graduate of Enfield High School, Class of 1971 and she earned her nursing degree from the St. Francis School of Nursing in 1974. Barbara worked as a registered nurse for 38 years at St. Francis Hospital. Many of those years as a head nurse of floors or departments. She loved helping patients and their families. It was truly her calling. Barbara is survived by her two sisters; Brenda Souliere and her husband Ed of Agawam, MA and Lisa Liptak-Kontnick and her husband Jeff of North Haven, her two brothers; Michael Howard of West Springfield, MA and Patrick Howard and his fiancé Erin Wilson of Middlefield, CT. She also leaves behind a niece and nephews, including her nephew and Godson Jesse Liptak, one grandniece and one grandnephew. In addition to her parents Barbara was predeceased by her sister Susan Cyphers and her brother Christopher Howard. Barbara leaves many friends that she made along the years. Amongst them is her best friend, Sandy Casinghino , whom Barbara considered a sister. Her family would like to thank her neighbors; Sean, Samantha, Jeff, Jane and Carolyn for their love and kindness that brightened many a day for Barbara. She loved them dearly. She was also dedicated to rescuing animals. She volunteered at the Connecticut Cat Connection and had rescued many cats throughout the years. Her passion was helping homeless animals.
