Barbara Louise Gremley Hodgman
Barbara Hodgman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away in her sleep at the age of 96 at her home in Miami, Florida on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was born on July 22, 1926, in Noank, Connecticut, the only child of Herbert Davis Gremley and Mary Collins Gremley.
Barbara loved playing piano and singing. She graduated both from Fitch High School, where she played piano in the school orchestra, and from the Teachers College of Connecticut. She was a kindergarten teacher for many years and was teaching kindergarten when she met her husband, James Hodgman (Jim), a US Coast Guard Academy graduate. They married on August 22, 1949, in Mystic, Connecticut and had four children – Susan, Gregory, Douglas and Daniel. Jim and Barb were happily married for 66 years and lived in many US states, including CA, MD, RI, HI and FL
Barb was a whiz in the kitchen, over a campfire and in the galley of the many family boats – all of which were named The Barb in her honor. She loved boating and fishing from an early age. An avid traveler, she was adventurous and took up backpacking at age 50.
Barb will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
