Barbara Gates Pattison

Troy Barbara Gates Pattison, known as Bobbie, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Jan. 23, 2004, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born June 22,1932 in Utica, she was the sixth of seven children of the Rev. Edmund Jayne Gates and Marjorie Coley Gates. She was a graduate of The Cathedral School of St. Mary in Garden City, Long Island and of William Smith College in Geneva.

During the past 20 years, she was the financial manager for Joseph’s House & Shelter where she worked from the inception of the facility. With great pride, she oversaw its financial and physical growth as a multi-service community outreach program for disadvantaged citizens. A quiet and capable volunteer, she gave many hours as treasurer for the Junior League of Troy and of the Wiawaka Holiday House on Lake George. Prior to her workplace career, she was a talented homemaker who enjoyed sewing, knitting upholstering and cooking.

She leaves her former husband, John Royce Pattison of Troy; four children, Gregory Gates Pattison and his wife, Kristina Almquist of Troy, Elisabeth Royce Pattison of York, ME, Sarah Hyde Pattison of Athens, GA and Johnson, VT and Margaret “Daisy” Synnott Pattison and her husband, Christopher Osmers of Martha’s Vineyard, MA and seven grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mary Gates of Oriskany Falls, NY, Catherine Gates Miller of Salem, CT and two brothers, David Gates of Clinton, CT, Roger Gates of Clinton, NY.
