Barbara Gail Joiner was born June 9, 1936 in Lovington, New Mexico to parents O.G. and Thelma (Gorney) Joiner. She graduated with Honors from Rising Star High School. She was married to F.W. Young, who passed away in 2004, and they had two children. She was a sweet and charming lady who enjoyed reading and watching old mysteries and playing games online. Barbara had a long career as a legal assistant for several prestigious firms, and was a long time member of the Houston Legal Assistants Association. She was active in a leadership capacity in community organizations such as the Bellaire Historical Society and Friends of the Bellaire Library, and was appointed by Governor Bush to the Texas State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners from 1997 to 2003. She held a seat on the Bellaire City Council for eight years and was awarded the “Mr. Bellaire” award in 1987 by the Greater Bellaire Chamber of Commerce for outstanding service and contribution to the people and community of Bellaire.

Barbara is survived by her son, Marc Young and his wife Karen; her daughter, Pam Luciani and her husband Dave; her grandchildren, Elizabeth White and her husband David, Christopher Young and his wife Daniella, and Bradley Young; her great-grandchild, Kate White; her brothers, Gary Joiner and his wife Shirley, and Jay Joiner and his wife Kathleen.
