Passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born June 16, 1926, in Kalamazoo to the late Jake and Glenna Klepper. Barbara was united in marriage to Philip Gernaat on July 23, 1971. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo and a longtime member of Second Christian Reformed Church. Barbara drove a school bus for 20 years for Parchment Schools.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Philip Gernaat; children, Tom Zuidema, Carolyn Whitney and Janice (Jim) Tripp; step-children, Stanley (Kathy) Gernaat and Allan Gernaat; 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Helen Klepper; step-brother, Edward (Betty) Klepper; step-sister, Joan VanderWoude; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, David Zuidema; and step-son, Philip L. Gernaat.
