Barbara Cummings, 70, went home to be with our Lord on October 14, 2014, after battling leukemia for 10 years. She was born August 12, 1944 to Thomas and Rhoda (Davis) Barlow in Muncie, Indiana. She graduated from Selma High School in 1962, and married Rephald Slusher. Four girls were born to this marriage. They later divorced. In 1980 she went to work for the Indiana Department of Corrections, where she met Teddy Cummings. In 1986 after vacationing in Canon City, they loved it so much they decided to move here and make this their home. In 1987, Barbara and Teddy were married, and she went to work for the Colorado Department of Corrections. In 1992 her health forced her to retire. They enjoyed the ‘mini’ farm they had, which included horses, donkey’s, burro’s, chickens, and rabbits. She loved gardening, taking care of wildlife, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Cripple Creek, and the Denver Bronco’s. Barbara never stopped learning, she was always reading. She loved life and never wasted a day. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all. Mrs. Cummings is survived by her husband, Teddy; daughters, Yvette Pitlik, Yvonne Cornish, and Victoria Salmon all of Canon City, and Valerie Leighty (KC) of Muncie, Indiana; sister, Jacqueline Barlow of Selma, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and her best buddy, Miriah.
