Barbara Abbott O’Leary, 77, of West Haven passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday August 13, 2011 after a long illness. Mrs. O’Leary was both married and widowed twice. First, to James R. Abbott, father of their five children and later to William G. O’Leary. She is survived by four children, James C. Abbott, Tracy Abbott Brown, Leslie Abbott and Allison Abbott all of West Haven, as well as the late Jennifer Brown. She leaves five grandchildren, James M. Brown, Nicole Brown, Jordan Brown and Tanja Brunski, all of West Haven as well as Heather (Michael) Archambault of East Haven and 3 great grandchildren. She is survived by sister Joan Hinman, brother-in-law Neil Mahlstedt, dear family friend Donald Iannuzzi and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Frances Mahlstedt and Lois Campbell and brother Harold C. Kords. Mrs. O’Leary was born Barbara Alma Kords on January 23, 1934 in New York City to the late Harold M. and Frances Weber Kords. In 1952, she received an academic and artistic scholarship from the School of Industrial Art & Design in Manhattan as top award winner. An accomplished artist, she was later employed as a decorative illustrator for JC Penney in Manhattan.
