Cambridge City- Dorothea “Babe” Bird, 88, of Cambridge City, passed away on Wednesday morning June 3, 2009 at the Waters of New Castle. A daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred Meyers Cayton, Dorothea Fern was born in Aberdeen, Indiana on March 29, 1921. Babe has lived in the Cambridge City community for most of her lifetime. She had worked for the Cambridge City Telephone Company for 10 years, the Area 9 Agency for 4 years, she had managed a motel on Sanibel Island in Florida with her late husband Russ and was also a housemother at Green Acres in Richmond.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Jerry (Corena) Marshall of Dublin and Jim (Rita) Marshall of Cambridge City;
18 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; daughter inlaw- Irene Marshall of Straughn; 3 brothers- Maurice L. (Grace) Brown of Connersville, Dale F. (Rose) Brown of Dunkirk, Bill Cayton of Brownsville, Texas; 2 sisters- Sandy Reynolds of Williamsport, Irene Earlywine of Centerville; step mother Jean Cayton of Williamsport.
Babe was preceded in death by 2 husbands- Edward B. Marshall – 1953; Russell W. Bird – 1975; 2 sons –
John E. Marshall – 1998 and his wife Geraldine- 2004, Joe Marshall- 1981; brother Francis W. Brown- 2002;
3 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson.
