Averill Signe Oppedahl, the daughter of Andrew G. and Stella (Byro) Oppedahl, was born on July 24, 1926 in Renwick, Iowa. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1945 and Waldorf College in 1947. On November 24, 1956 Averill was united in marriage with Eldon Monson at Lake Lutheran Church of rural Goldfield. She had worked as a Clerk for the Humboldt County Recorder, the Humboldt County ASCS office and the Humboldt County Farm Bureau. Averill was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she had been the secretary, organist and Sunday School teacher for many years. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a member of the Federated Women’s Club. Averill was also involved with 4-H helping children with projects and exhibits at the County Fair.

Left to cherish Averill’s memory is her husband Eldon; a daughter, Ruth Brearley and her husband Dennis of Waxahachie, TX; two sons, Phillip Monson and his wife Janice of Humboldt and Wayne Monson and his wife Dee of Janesville; seven grandchildren, Deanna and Joel Rolland, Evan and Robert Monson and Derek, Heidi Cook and Heather Oelmann; two great grandchildren; and a brother Andrew Oppedahl and his wife Carolyn of Dubuque. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marguerite Olson; and a brother, Sumner Oppedahl.
