Avanell Marie Harbert Ours, 73, of Indiana Avenue, Nutter Fort, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 5, 2010 following an extended illness. Ms. Ours was a retired Call Taker with Allegheny Power. She was born on February 17, 1937 a daughter of the late Lory Lemuel and Jessie May Regester Harbert. She was preceded in death by her former husband, John Mack Ours. Surviving are her son, Jon Nicholas Ours, at home; her daughter, Kathryn Ann Lucente and her husband Tony, Clarksburg; grandson Jonathan Carpenter and his fiancé Maranda Wilfong; and a very special great granddaughter, Abby, of Fairmont; two sisters, Mary Frances Williams and Bonnie Shellenberger; and special nieces and nephews, Shelby and her husband Roger “Mudd” Cain, Clarksburg, and Michael and his wife Darlene Mucha, Quiet Dell. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Mucha, Beverly Harbert, and Nadine Harbert. A graduate of Washington Irving high School, Avanell went on to a career with Monongahela Power Company and retired from Allegheny Power. Avanell was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort, where she served as treasurer for many years, as well as singing in the choir and was a member of the Women’s Society. Avanell shared a very special friendship with Norma Haymond, her neighbor, with whom many hours were spent as “Elviney and Loweezy” at the fence. Along with Norma were Alice Bodenheimer and Phyllis Brown, and these four were affectionately known as “The Golden Girls”. One of her most enjoyable events in life was time spent as a teenager working at the Mount Storm Bus Depot for “Bert & Pappy Dotson”.
