Augusta Fields James (Mudear) was the middle child born to the union of the late George A. and Clara B.
She received her primary education from her mother and earned her high school education at Wilcox County Training School in Miller’s Ferry, Alabama. She went on to attend Mobile Branch College and Alabama State Teacher’s College in Montgomery. She later received her master’s degree from the University of South Alabama.
Augusta devoted her life’s work to education. She retired from the Washington County Board of Education after 25 years of service as an elementary school teacher. One of her greatest joys was running into her former students in Leroy, McIntosh, and surrounding areas.
Family and history were cherished by Augusta.
Augusta departed this earthly life on June 22, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Woods; sister, Mildred F. Bettis; and husband, Leslie James. She leaves to cherish her legacy son Ronald (Janice) Woods, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama, grandchildren Natalie (Aaron) Weeks of Atlanta, Georgia and Ronald Woods, Jr. of Auburn, Alabama, niece Valda (Christopher) Chijide of Columbus, Ohio, nephew Roseal Bettis of Scottsdale, Arizona, and a host of other relatives and friends.
