Audrey M. Romeril 83, of Hellertown, died in Blough Healthcare Center on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Her husband, Stanley DeBevoise Romeril preceded her in death in 1972. Born in Sayville, New York, she was the daughter of Joseph and Laurena (Van Popering) Layos. Audrey grew up on Verbena Avenue in Floral Park, NY, graduating from Sewanhaka High School in 1948. Audrey was a Claims Adjuster for Phoenix Home Life Insurance Company. For thirty-eight years she took the LIRR into NYC to work and to enjoy the cultural life NYC had to offer. As they were friends since childhood, her marriage to Stanley was a happy one. They loved their home, family and friends and traveled extensively in North America and Europe. Audrey was a loving and caring person, who was treasured by all in her extended family. She took care of her mother until Laurena died. Audrey played golf, bowled and was a member of the Federated Womens Club in NY and Pennsylvania. Her passion was to see young women educated, and she worked tirelessly to raise scholarship money for that purpose. She also put her own life on the line for seven years in cancer trials and experimental chemotherapy to help find a cure for the ovarian and peritoneal cancers that took her life.
