Audrey Anne Mellon, age 95, of Cassopolis, died peacefully in her daughter’s home Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in the comfort of her family’s presence.

Her life began October 14, 1926 in Harrietta, Michigan, the third of nine children born to Delmar and Mattie Porter.  She married Bernard Laurel Mellon September 24, 1944 in Wolcott, Indiana.  After fifty-six years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 2001.

Audrey loved her grandchildren.  She did “A LOT” and made the absolute best apple pie EVER!

She gardened, sewed, baked, hunted mushrooms and even taught woodworking to one of her daughters.  Audrey was a very independent woman.  When she was ninety-three years old, she bought a new lawn tractor so she could mow her own lawn.

Audrey will be greatly missed by family and friends.  She is survived by four daughters, Sue (Ronnie Christopher) Canniff, Patricia (Ed) Fergison, Debra Stone, Laura (Al) Geedy; one son, Bernard L. Mellon, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one sister, Dode Zakrajsek; one brother, Richard Porter; and a host of nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard Mellon; two sisters, Evelyn Stanley, Gertrude McQuiston; four brothers, Howard Porter, Delmar James Porter, Darrell Porter, and Donald Porter.
