Auburn Burton Lockard, 85 of North East, MD, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House, Forest Hill, MD.

A lifelong resident of North East, he was born in Elk Neck on September 18, 1927, the son of the late William J. and the late Mary H. (Pierce) Lockard.  Mr. Lockard was the beloved husband of Anna Louisa (Arrants) Lockard of North East, MD.

He was a graduate of North East High School.  He was an Army Veteran, serving during World War II in the 2101st Area Service Unit.

Before his retirement, Mr. Lockard repaired electric meters for DPL; was the Owner/Operator of Lockard’s Sub Shop and Pool Hall in North East; was the Operator of Smith’s Liquors; and was a News Journal Carrier.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Elkton, MD; and enjoyed travel, shooting pool and playing chess.  Most of all he loved the time spent with his family.

In additional to his loving wife, survivors include: his children: William B. Lockard, Sr. of Rising Sun, MD and Mary A. Lockard-Polis (William) of Landenberg, PA; 1 brother: Amos Lockard of North East, MD; 4 grandchildren: Jessica Lockard, Lauren Lockard-Reil (Kenneth), William B. Lockard, Jr. and Alexis Polis; a great grandson: Gavin Reil; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lockard was preceded in death by 6 siblings: Charles, William, Andrew, Albert, George and Marion Lockard.
